For this piece, I was inspired by a field of Lavender I saw in France. I was in awe of the magnificent depth and purple color that was intensified by the light reflecting from the sun. Combining the remembered beauty of the field and my love of sunflowers, I began to paint. In order to capture the brilliance of the colors, I decided to paint the entire canvas a dark brown, and use only gold, white, and black for the entire piece. Sunflowers represents far more than beauty, they represent community as all sunflowers grow towards the sun as “one.”
